There's a lot of hype out there. Especially around marketing tools. And most of it is based on fear: fear you won't buy with a "mere" quiet recommendation.

This is a hype-free list of marketing tools. I have personally used them all and found them effective. Some I continue to use. Others met a need at the time. A few of them I am reselling. Others are free.

I have found that anyone can take almost any site onto page one of Google.

One of the people who has helped me learn how to do this is Brad Callen, and he's just written a free, 90-page ebook that shows you how you can do the same. Right click on the book cover now and download a free copy.

Two things I like about Brad's give-away. One, it gets right to the main point. Brad covers all the main bases in detail, with examples, and summarizes what you need to know (and do!). Two, it's beautifully designed and laid out. Brad's software is like this also. He produces well-crafted, and nicely-finished stuff.

What Brad says works. Here's a sample, from p.80, explaining how to get your inside pages onto page one of Google.

He says, "Remember, if you can 'vote' for an inner webpage on your website by using your main keyword in the anchor text within the link linking to that page, ALWAYS do it. At last! You can write jaw-dropping headlines, modelled on the masters of this critical art

The next visitor to your web site (and they could be opening up your home page as you read this) has just one question in mind — 'Will this web site give me what I want?'

And they ask the same question when they scan your latest newsletter, glance at your e-mail subject line, open up your sales letter.

How are you going to convince them that is IS — before they click away?

A good headline will do most of that work for you.

For over 100 years of Western commerce this has been true. It still holds today.

But if you're like me you need expert help to write a reader-stopping headline — and preferably the kind of help that will actually generate the thing for you rather than giving you 'golden rules for writing headlines that work'.

I've lost count of the number of times I've written a headline and wished I had more time (or know-how) to go back and make it headline that draws readers down the page into my text.

Business on auto-pilot? Yes. It's possible. But first there's the hard work

They're proven ideas. These things sell. There's PLENTY of room on the Internet and this guy is naming the products he's found do sell — completely unconcerned about you taking market share from him.

It's got an 'ouch!' price, but I would go ahead and buy it anyway, because he lays out all the steps he takes — the simple, baby- sized steps.

He's written nothing remarkably new in his eBook. (Who has?) But what he DOES show you is a step-by-step programme you can follow. He explains everything clearly and quickly. That's what makes his book stand out from most of the others.

Also he demonstrates that the search engines like his growing number of sites — 90 at the last count — in spite of hic-up he had with Google in mid-August that saw the PR value of many of his sites plunge. (That drop is going to be temporary, in my opinion. He is building by the search engine rules, not using tricks, and his "empire" of sites will rise again like a great whale.)

One thing. This approach is based on building sites with lots of content. That means lots of writing. Personally, I thrive on this. I am seeing my own large content sites get pushed up the search engines. But I can see smaller sites and other strategies, like link swapping with good quality sites, appealing to some people.

Now you can keep in touch with the visitor who didn't buy at your site. And with your customers who need to be reminded to buy again.

It's simple. You just use autoresponders.

These are remarkable little scripts that keep you in touch with prospects or customers by email — automatically.

Here's how they work.

Someone is on your web site considering buying your product, but hesitating. That's OK, because you are also offering some free information that's related to the product and also of interest to your visitor. They give you their name and email, and the free information drops into their inbox. And the following day they get another email from you, addressed to them personally, with some soft selling for your product. And so on at as many days apart as is appropriate.

Same with your buyers. You can sign them up for sequences of pre-written emails that remind the buyer about you, suggest further purchases, and offer discounts.

And you can write a set of (say) 12 newsletters and send them out at monthly intervals using an autoresponder.

All personalized. All automated. You set it up, and then never lift a finger again.

There are free autoresponder scripts out there, that come with ads (either to you or to the person who receives your emails) or are technically shaky. I've used them.

There are also scripts that cost you $20 a month.

But you don't need to pay that much. Because the best autoresponder I've found you can purchase outright — for just $100 — and use for as many follow up campaigns as you need!

I can't speak highly enough of this autoresponder. Its easier and has more features than any free autoresponder. And does everything the expensive ones do with slick simplicity and style, at a fraction of the price.
